Immunization Initiative (NJIIS)

Immunizations are critically important to protect children from preventable diseases. One of the national health objectives for 2010 was to increase to 95% the proportion of children below 7 years of age who participate in "fully operational" population-based IIS.

New Jersey Administrative Code 8:57-3.16(a) mandates "Every health care provider administering vaccines to children less than seven years of age shall register as an NJIIS site and authorized user and commence online reporting of vaccinations prior to December 31, 2011".

Funded by the New Jersey Department of Health And Senior Services, Vaccine Preventable Disease Program, the focus of the Immunization Initiative is to recruit and train pediatricians and their staff to utilize New Jersey Immunization Information System (NJIIS). NJIIS is New Jersey's online immunization registry. NJIIS helps providers obtain a complete and accurate immunization history for a new or continuing patient, produce immunization records, reduce paperwork, manage vaccine inventories and introduce new vaccines or changes in the vaccine schedule. In addition, the immunization registry also enables providers to calculate when immunizations are due and obtain an accurate immunization history for day care, school, and camp entry requirements for their patients.

The Immunization Initiative at Hudson Perinatal Consortium conducts marketing outreach and training for providers in Hudson, Bergen and Passaic counties.
